Year in Tiers 2023 - Black Jackets
While there were a ton of great records released this year, there were only 9 that qualified for the top tier. The best of the best, gold medalist, Michael Jordans of 2023 albums - worthy of Gordon Ramsey himself dressing them in a Hell's Kitchen black jacket. What, am I the only one that watches Hell's Kitchen? It's not bad. Gordon Ramsey calls people doughnuts for some reason. There's like 20 seasons, you've really never seen it? The finalist get a black jacket...that's wha

Year in Tiers 2023 - The 1990's Atlanta Braves
There was a TON of awesome music released this year. So much so that our "good, but not great" tier was almost our largest collection of records. But that middle tier always swallows up the majority. Just barely this year though. And to signify sustained excellence without quite reaching dynastic status, we've chosen the 1990's Atlanta Braves to represent the incredible records that came up just a little short of championship pedigree. But make no mistake, like those perpetu

Year in Tiers 2023 - Kenan
Not all that memorable but you can definitely do a lot worse, our middle tier of 2023 albums has been given his namesake. Aww here it goes..

Year in Tiers 2023 - 3 Musketeers
3 Musketeers is all fluff. Don't get me wrong, you'll still eat it. But only after all the other candy options have been exhausted.

Year in Tiers 2022 - Gold Jackets
Our very best of the year sit in this most highly regarded of tiers with the most precious of accolades the boring-ass gatekeeping elitist sport of golf can bestow upon you - these are the Gold Jackets. #11. Hygiene by Drug Church Typically the further a punk band strays from their hardcore roots and towards pop sensibilities, the worse their output becomes. But "Hygiene" is far and away Drug Church's most concentrated anthemic effort to date and also, the best album of their

Year in Tiers 2022 - Kane
Even though he had a pretty solid professional wrestling career, a couple of title runs and was technically inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame ( who isn't though? ); Kane was never really a headlining act. He had a pretty awesome look and had plenty of kick ass moments but thanks to the fact that he was introduced as The Undertaker's little brother - he never really escaped the shadow that cast upon him. And so these are the equally impressive - but not quite "BEST EVER" qual

Year in Tiers 2022 - Subway
The largest tier in this year's recap gathers the perfectly fine, not bad but not great, commonplace enough to be found in nearly every city in America - the Subways. They're decent enough, at least as far as fast food is concerned. And not entirely terrible for you either. But it's not spectacular either. Usually for every great flavor or fresh ingredient there's a stale one hiding to counterbalance it equating to a perfectly average experience. Welcome to Subway. #99. From

Year in Tiers 2022 - The Wishmasters
Anybody else miss the bygone era of trashy straight to video horror movies like Uncle Sam, Jack Frost or The Wishmaster? More often than not, just seeing the threatening VHS box art and imagining what the movie might be about was more gratifying than anything that was actually in the movie itself. But as bad as the movies often were, there was still some enjoyment to be found in watching something you probably shouldn't be. These are the bad but not terrible, entertaining eno

Year in Tiers 2022 - Don't Worry Darling Press Tour
This year I tried not to punish myself with finishing albums I wasn't super into or force feeding myself material I had little interest in but wanted to have an opinion on it when the inevitable "whatabout"ers came spouting what they deemed to be worthwhile efforts that I had excluded from my list. But as a result, this is the smallest tier in the 4 years of doing this that I've ever had. Just three records make 2022's "worst of" list. These are the three calamities so appall

Year in Tiers 2021 - The Eli Mannings
Eli Manning was a very good NFL quarterback. The dude won two Superbowls and did so beating one of the best quarterback / head coach duos of all time in Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. TWICE. But he's always going to be in the shadow of his older brother Peyton. He's good, but not an all time great. This tier is dedicated to Eli. #39. GLOW ON by Turnstile While it would have been easy for Turnstile to churn out another collection of ass-whooping mosh pit anthems for their third

Year in Tiers 2021 - Ramen Noodles
We've classified the middle tier of this year's recap as the Ramen Noodles. Not bad, filling, and easy to consume - these are the albums that wont inspire much fanaticism, but they'll keep you from starving if you can't afford something with a little more flavor. #76. Crawler by Idles Idles returns with a quick recovery effort in the intentionally understated "Crawler", which contains much less pomp and circumstance than last year's " Ultra Mono " but is also undeniably drab
